GET ORGANIZED MONTH
|
|
It's a Chance to Start the Year Out Organized
The number two New Year's resolution after loosing weight is organizing. If you think about it both are a type of downsizing.
The National Association of Professional Organizers designated January as Get Organized Month. It's a great time to select an area in your home to get more organized.
First set a goal and be realistic.
Instead of trying to organize your entire kitchen you may want to start
with the pantry. Try organizing a dresser drawer or a closet before
tackling the entire bedroom.
Once you designate your first project you need to develop an action plan. Break the job into small manageable tasks and grab your calendar to create a schedule.
Start by sorting everything into categories. In your closet for example you would group all the pants together. This makes it easy to see how much you have.
Now clear out the items you don't use, need or love. If you want a less chaotic life you are going to need to simplify your inventory.
Once down to what is going to stay, everything needs a home. Think about putting things where you will use them next.
Store like items together so you will know where to look for them. You may find it helpful to add labels as a reminder of what goes where.
When you have reached your goal remember to acknowledge your accomplishment. It will give you confidence to work on your next organizing project. |
Share this newsletter with friends and family who will find it useful.

Hanging Artwork
Question:
I have several pieces of art that I would like to hang. Is there an easy way to accomplish this so it looks good?
Pierrette:
Cut
newspaper or craft paper the same size as each frame. Label each piece
and use an arrow to indicate the top. Arrange them on the wall with
painter's tape. Treat the group as one piece when you are deciding on
placement. In general, artwork should be hung so that the center of a
picture or grouping is at eye level which will be about 57".
Nail a hook right through the paper. When all the hooks are on the wall, take down the paper and replace with your artwork.

SHOE ORGANIZING
|
|
Pairing Up
Is the bottom of your closet a jumble of shoes?
It is easier to select a pair to wear if your shoes are organized and stored properly. No more time spent looking for the missing mate.
Gather all your shoes together to inventory. Sort your shoes by type such as sandals, heels, dress or evening shoes, business shoes, athletic, boots, flats, and slippers.
Remove any damaged, out-of-style or unworn shoes. This frees space to store the shoes you still wear.
Photograph each pair of shoes you are keeping.
Select a storage box.
You can reuse the original cardboard box or purchase clear plastic shoe
boxes for each pair. The standard size will hold most shoes. Medium
boxes are good for men's shoes and ankle boots. The largest size will
hold high boots.
When you place a pair of shoes in a box tape the corresponding photo to the outside. Make sure they are on the same side so when the boxes are stacked you can see the photos.
Stack boxes
containing similar style shoes no more than 3 or 4 high and keep the
same sized boxes together. This makes them stable, easier to pull out
the box on the bottom plus they will look neater. Ideally stack them on
shelves. If you don't have enough shelf space you can use the floor.

ORGANIZING SOLUTION
|
|
Preserving Memories
Challenge:
Your
photos are probably sitting in boxes where nobody ever looks at them.
They are also at risk of loss to natural elements like heat and water.

Solution:
Send your prints to SaveMyPix to have them scanned into digital images.
… They professionally scan your photos and convert them into digital files.
… They
ship back your original photos and a personalized CD that contains
standard 300 dpi jpg files, ready for copying to your computer.
… Photo sizes can range from 3" by 3" (Polaroids) to 8.5" by 14".
… They also transfer video tape and movies to a DVD or a hard drive.
Result:
You
have the comfort of knowing that all your photos are digitized and can
be easily backed up, quickly and inexpensively duplicated and shared
with friends and family. Don't underestimate the emotional joy of
rediscovering old photos.
